Cancer Car Donation

If you want to help cancer patients in need and have a car you no longer want, you should consider donating it for the cause. You can go through a cancer car donation center or work directly with an organization like the American Cancer Society. Then there are donation centers that are more broad in nature and help a large number of different charities. These centers usually allow you to pick the charity you want your vehicle proceeds to go to. If you've never donated a car before you may be unfamiliar with the process.

The first step is to choose who gets the car. You can also donate other types of vehicles such as trucks, RVs, vans, even boats. The vehicle you donate does not have to be running but it does have to be in one piece. When choosing a donation center make sure you check for credentials. Of course with a nationally renowned charity like the American Cancer Society or St. Jude's checking credentials is not necessary. Once you've chosen the organization all you have to do is contact them and let them know you want to donate a vehicle.

The charity you've chosen will most likely send a tow truck to pick up your vehicle at no cost to you. This is a good thing if you've got a junked car that no longer runs sitting on your property or someone else's. Not only do you get your car towed removed at no cost, you get to deduct it from your taxes. The federal government allows a deduction of up to $500 for a car donated to charity. If the organization sells your vehicle and it brings in more than $500, they can provide you with a letter stating the sale price so you can take a higher deduction.

A cancer car donation center will most likely sell your vehicle then take the money and apply it towards research, medical care or other expenses for the organization and/or cancer sufferers who are in need of assistance. There are many people who are uninsured or whose insurance does not cover all their medical expenses. Cancer treatments can be very expensive which is why some patients must apply for various financial aid programs backed by charitable donations. For them and others, your donation can go a long way towards finding a cure and improving the quality of life for cancer patients everywhere.
